I think my engine is a 1500

Post by thd566 »

Hi, Just looking at my numbers here and I think my car has a different engine in it. The chassis number is 116998198 which says it's a 66. The engines number is H0679471. I think that is a 1500cc engine. Did they put these in 66s or did someone change it. Before I owed it, It was in a little front end wreck and was "bajaed", so I'm not worried about being original. I just want to know for parts reason.

Thanks,
Chris

H prefix indicates a 1500 engine. Chassis number indicates a '66, and even though it's a late model run '66, the engine is still later than '66.

Great, I just got all the 180mm clutch parts. Guess I'll have to take it apart and see what she has in her  .

Thanks for the response.

If the car's a 12 volt, odds are it's the 200mm clutch.

And right along with that 200 mm flywheel if it's 12v, you could very easily have a 1600 SP instead of a 1500. Cases are commonly reused in rebuilds if they're in serviceable condition, so you can't always rely on the number stamped on the case to tell you exactly what might be in there now.

If you're not looking for a 100% correct stock rebuild for your car, then it's not going to hurt it to have a 1500 or 1600 or even something more robust under the decklid. You just need to make sure that you know what you've got if you ever have to get into the bottom end for work.
