Starting Issue

There is a starting issue with my beetle.....I replaced the battery and the fuel lines, and still nothing! Still slow cranking......If it does even start and want to drive, it will die and get get too hot in the middle of the street. Any thing that might solve this problem?

Can we assume all the routine tune-up has been done? Points, condensor, plugs, wires, timing and valve adjustment? Have you run a compression test? What is the compression?

We can't offer any advice until we know the basics have been covered.
