Flywheel is missing some teeth
Most likely your flywheel has some missing (ground off) teeth. This happens when you try to engage the starter when the engine is already running (ouch--a lot of grinding). Invest in a Motive pressure brake bleeder. One man operation, fast easy, works. Or, find a friend and spend hours trying to get all the air out of your lines. Sounds like he tightened up the steering gear box worm gear too much. The "special tool" is a big (15/16th inch - I think) bolt that can be used to tighten the gear box from below. Too tight WILL cause the steering to not return to center and will be very hard to turn. Fix is to loosen it ...
