Safety Upgrades
I'm uncomfortable with the OEM lap seat belt and wanted to upgrade to a belt that covers my shoulders. Any recommendations as to brand/model of harness/belt and how to install it myself? Thanks!

I think it would also be helpful for us to know what spare parts and tools we should keep in our Bugs in case we have a break down. Thanks!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I test drove a Beetle yesterday and it made a constant humming noise but only when my foot pressed all the way down on the clutch. What caused that? What are diagnostic tests I should do on a clutch to make sure it's okay? What items should I keep in my Bug in ca...

Thank you, Apologies, and Follow Up
I apologize for posting it in the wrong forum. It was a total mistake and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing up in the Technical or Mechanical Forum. I should have offered a context to my question. I'm looking for my first VW Beetle. Someone was selling his Beetle for $2,100 which he claime...

I'm planning on getting a stock VW Bug. I also live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where there's lots of rusty cars and humidity. My idea about the oil filter is to extend the oil change intervals with the OEM strainer. If that is possible, how often can I change the oil with an without an oil filte...

Thanks; follow up questions
Where is the oil pick up tube and what does it look like? What is the "pump cover" and what does it look like? Do I need to add a high volume oil pump due to the extra volume of oil upon the addition of the oil filter? I'm concerned that the oil pressure will be lowered with the extra oil....

Strainer; Oil Filter; Fuel Filter
Hi, I'm new to VW Beetle ownership. In my prior non-VWs, I put magnets on top of the drain plugs (with Superglue) which caught metal engine shavings. I want to do this with a Beetle that uses a strainer, but don't know where to put the magnets. Is it a good idea to add an adapter and oil filter? If ...

New to Beetles Question
Hi,
If I want to drive on hills and freeways, should I adjust my timing? Someone told me to advance the distributor for hills and retard it for freeways. Is that okay? Thanks!
