n00b solenoid/starter question~!

Post by VeeDubCoyote »

Hey!

OK so I haven't posted in awhile but recently my starter went bad. I'm 98% sure it's the solenoid but am not sure whether it's worth it to just replace the whole 6v starter (i have a 12v engine, which could've been part of the reason why it went bad), ORRRR just replace the solenoid? :?

Really appreciate your responses guys!!
Thanks!

Hi. See the replies to the posting Electrical Woes from Larspryce. Blue Baron's idea is a good one. I tried this on my car, but the stater motor was too far shot to save. Being 6v in the 12 v system will shorten the starter life, but my understanding is that to upgrade to 12 v the fly wheel also needs to be replaced - as well as other parts no doubt.
Hope this helps. Richard
