My Bug has finally Landed

Post by rokemester »

A few months ago I joined this great forum and said that I had a 66 VW but I needed to bring it home from outside Chicago. Well, my bug has landed this past weekend. His name is Murray. My Uncle and I share the same middle name, and he gave the Bug to me for safe keeping. I thought it was fitting to name the car after him...and me.

It looks like I'm limited to three. I'll send more later.

A few more...

Post by rokemester »

Here are a few more details. Murray is on jack stands because I'm getting the wheels blasted and powder coated. The brakes definitely need attention as only a few move freely. Generous doses of rust breaker PB.

Wow you got pretty lucky with a car from Chicago - Murray looks to be real solid. Murray must have been well protected from the salty roads in the winter.

Murray's Background

Post by rokemester »

He was actually from Iowa, but I'm surprised that he didn't have more salt damage. The car has been repainted but I'm trying to figure out if the pan was resprayed at one time. The fenders and pan have undercoating material with clean paint underneath.

On Stopping

Post by rokemester »

I'm trying to teach Murray to stop before I dare rev him up. My wife asked me what that new cologne I've been wearing. Ode to PB Blaster!
