BLOWN FUSE!

Post by Boris1966 »

Hello everyone.

I've got a lovely 1966 european spec beetle. It keeps blowing an 8amp fuse. The fuse is situated third from the right in the fuse box. On the wiring diagram this fuse appears to be connected to 3 things
1) Passenger (left) tail light
2) Passenger front side light
3) Headlight switch

I have checked all the earths, the bulb holders and bulbs. The next plan is to take the switch off my boyfriend's 1970 crew cab and swap it with mine to see what happens........ is it likely to be a switch problem? Does anyone have any ideas so i can drive Boris at night?

Thankx
Leane :?:

Hi i don't know if this helps but when i got my Bug it kept blowing an 8 amp fuse and i took the car to a VW specialist he swapped the wires on the headlight around and it cured the problem.
He said it was something he'd been asked many times on old VWs.
Regards

Thanks Cherokee,

I have a suspicion that there may be part of the wire exposed and perhaps shorting against the body. I was hoping to solve the problem myself but I might just have to pay a specialist to sort it out!

Hi,

since there are 3 different things connected to the fuse, you might want to narrow it down a bit.

Just remove the bulbs from 2 things each time and see if the fuse blows.

At least then you know what to look at.
