Purchased a Hurst shifter. I found that the po repaired the hanger bracket but used rivets to attach. Bad bad news , My feeling if this is
not the correct way to repair and if it was meant to have rivets then the Germans would have. The shifter plate should rest on a flat surface. So I drilled out the rivets, and removed the bracket.
Bracket looked good but I ended up ordering a new bracket anyway ,bushing and
metal ring clip.I will mig weld the bracket in place and grind
everything flat and spray..will update
take a look at the above link..

Yeah I don't like shortcuts like that either, like you said it was welded that way by the Germans for a reason.
I was stripping the lower edge of my passenger side door and found a poorly pop-riveted panel had been attached a few inches up from the lower edge and bondo'ed over! Grrrr! More work!

The shifter rod project is now completed. In the spring i might have to move around the shifter to find the perfect sweet spot..nothing a 13 mm wrench can't cure.On a scale of 1 to 10,
10 being the worst part of the scale...i would rate this project a 4
any questions just send an email
