wiper motor wiring

Post by bill hauck »

My 66 has a later model wiper switch in it. Besides the hot and the ground, it has four other wires coming out of the switch. It is a 12v system.

I have a 65/66 switch to intall in it. Push button washer, etc. Hot and ground and then only two wires out, I believe.

How can I wire the old switch to work with the newer motor?? I don't care if the wipers are two speed or not. The color coding is tough for me because I have somewhat defective color vision.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never done this sort of retrofit with a 12 volt system (I've always been a six volt guy) so someone else who has will hopefully jump in and help.

wiper motor retrofit

Post by bill hauck »

Here is some info I got from Speedy Jim. He has been most helpful on VW issues and others on this site can get a lot of help from himl

was the wiring for it.

Presumably, you'll want the wiper to run at the high speed.
Connect 54 on the switch to the fuse.
Connect 54d on the switch to 53b on the motor.
Ground 31 on the motor (may have to ground the frame too).

Leave 31b un-connected. I don't think the "Park" function
will work and it will confuse a lot of wiring.

That should be all you need.
