Not sure exactly what you are looking for here - if it is for a specific manufacturing date tied to your vin number - you won't find that book. If your looking for how vin numbers changed each year and how many beetles were produced there are several good books that detail that.

Yes, except it's the manufacturer (wolfsburg vw plant) that has the info - probably in a dusty old archive ;)

vin #

Post by bajaaaron66 »

i was working under the engine and found a vin number on the driver side and passenger side below the pushrod tubes, driver side number is 113 101 101 B 28 and the passenger side number is different and it is 113 101 102 B. Anybody have a clue what these numbers mean, i have been looking threw john muirs book and none of the numbers add up, 113 looks to be 1972 0r 1973, any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanks Bajaaron66

Those are part numbers...I believe that the 113 pre-fix designates that they are off of or for a beetle model...almost all VW parts have a number attached to them at some point of there life, either cast into, stamped, inked or stickered some way. I've also found that most of the beetle part numbers started with 113 or with 111

The Vin numbers are located on a plate behind the spare tire and on the frame under the rear seat. Sometimes the plate behind the spare tire would fall off so that one may or may not be there.

Chassis numbers for 1966 model year: 116 000 001 - 116 1021 298

Chassis numbers for 1965 model year: 115 000 001 - 115 979 202

Chassis numbers for 1967 model year: 117 000 001 - 117 844 892

This should give you a range to work with in case your car turns out not to be a '66 after all.

My Vin starts with a 116 but the fourth number is totally off, What's up with that?

I'm not quite sure of what you mean by "totally off." Shoot me an email with your chassis number, and I'll try to decipher it.
