Engine Lid Rubber Seal installation

Post by oldbugguy »

My 66' is back from paint and they didn't do me any favors with the trunk lid seal channel or the engine lid seal channels. I've had to rework them into a condition that can hold the bead on the seal rubber https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/Deta ... =111827705 . Some areas are a bit loose and I was thinking of using glue to keep the seal in place. Here's the link showing the install area. https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg ... cfm?type=1

I'm asking for any ideas about what glue to use. I don't think contact cement will be strong enough. I'm going to experiment with clear silicone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I'm sure you've probably started with silicone already. I'm sure they were designed just to be fit tightly in the track. I remember back years and years ago some guys would use a gasket glue in their door channels. Kind of like this stuff: 3M™ SCOTCH-GRIP RUBBER AND GASKET ADHESIVE 847 - 5 OZ. That being said, I bet wolfsburgwest customer support would have a recommendation. On a side note, I ordered some a left hand door seal (not from wolfsburgwest...but I should have), and it was garbage, so loose that I just trashed it. Good luck and let us know what you ended up doing.
