Lead wires query

Post by KKV270 »

Hi.
Please help me understand a few things about the spark plug lead wires;
- how can you tell for sure it is dead?
- what should the resistance of a good wire be?
- I have seen some lead wires that do not have the holder/cup that clamps onto the spark plug... and that is a section, I believe, that determines the resistance of a lead wire- how significant are those ends?

Reason I ask this, having seen those leads that don't have the holders, I desired to eliminate mine from my system as I have been having erratic running and I suspect it is my lead wires. My run without the holders (though on a short trip) performed better. I just wonder- is the resistance they create a necessity? I'm tempted to run without them. Thanks.
