Seasand 1966

Post by Seibert66 »

After almost a 2 year strenuous search, I finally became the owner of a '66 bug...it seems increasingly difficult to find unmolested VWs these days. I'm fortunate and grateful to live in southern California where it's still possible to find a few preserved gems...my quest was to find an accident free, original plates, OG paint bug that didn't get lowered or cut. I was willing to accept minor changes that I could revert back to stock. I'm relieved that after many disappointments I was able to find a nice young couple willing to part from their possession...the car was recently painted the same exterior color, but the interior paint is original and the dash is untouched. I just need to replace the hubcaps that are not period correct...glad I found this website for advice and guidance...

I belong to Fresh Air VW club out of Pittsburgh. Someone just posted a set of hub caps and rims from a 1966.

Russ Fried out of Garden City, MI wants $65 for them.

Look for him on Facebook.

Looks great, I just bought a 66 that was recently painted. I have just started to reassemble her. Will be a long but delightful roll.

Thanks again to this group for the support and advice every time I need help ...I have been learning so much since the day I got my '66 and the lessons keep coming...I recently found out that my window regulator was stripped since the day I acquired the car and the only solution was to replace it. Luckily I found a 1965 German regulator that fits well. The learning process of how to install it correctly took all day..ha ha...but once I moved the window vent... I was able to complete the job!

The previous owner repainted it...it came out a little lighter than the original L568 seesand...I wish he matched it a little closer but I understand it's difficult...

It took a while but the period correct rims/hubcaps finally completed the stock look...
