gearbox seal (on axle)

Post by KKV270 »

Hi.

I need some help. I have a gearbox to my bus leaking from (what I believe) the axle. I understand that, unlike the beetle with a rear hub seal at the drum, the seal on the bus is accessible having removed the 6 screwed attaching the shafts to the wheels.

Please advice on how this job gets done plus what are the names of this seals (I don't know what they look like either).
Cheers.

I haven't fussed with the seal. But to remove the shaft, remove the six bolts and the inner axle will come free. Be careful not to round out the bolts. I like to clean them to ensure the my bit will seat correctly. Don't discard the three anti slip brackets under the bolts. You can reuse them.

Here is video of the next step.
