Hesitation

Post by Badman24 »

I think I have a 1500cc engine, single port 30 pict carb. I get a hesitation at the beginning of every gear. any ideas? Also without taken off the head and measuring I have no idea what size motor I have since the UB code doesn't exist. I know its a AS41 Brazilian block. carb is rebuilt. advance the timing? for some reason I cant get the distributor to turn. I have the bolt loosened. I might have to pull it but I afraid it might be stuck.

would a clogged heat riser cause this problem? I think I will take off the exhaust and snake it. Experts let me know.

I'd start with easy stuff first.

1. Adjust your valves (cold engine)
2. Set the gap on your points
3. Set your timing
4. Make sure each cylinder is firing (pull one plug at a time with engine running)

Drive the car after each step. If it's still running poorly, then adjust the mixture on the carburetor. Is the choke working?

I cant get the distributor to turn. I have the bolt loosened.
Remove the bolt and pry the clamp apart a bit. Try penetrating oil on it first.

I had a worn set of points that left me with a bad idle and no power at low rpm's. The car kept getting worse until eventually it wouldn't idle. A new set of points and ran like new.

When you set the timing, did you static or dynamically time it?

So that means you loosened the distributor so it will turn?
