1966 Karmann Ghia rewiring and 6v to 12v conversion

Post by Sacdl001 »

I just started restoring a 1966 Karmann Ghia. The wiring is a mess so I'm going to replace it with a new wiring harness. I'm also going to convert from a 6v system to a 12 v system. Does it matter which one I do first? Any thoughts on the wiring or conversion are appreciated.

The current wires are probably toast and you will eventually have to replace them anyway. My opinion would be do that first.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do the rewiring before the conversion. Any thoughts/suggestions/advice on the 6v to 12v conversion?

Do a search on 12v conversions and there are tons of threads here on the subject. Here is one that lists all the parts:

Here are a couple of kits:

I can't vouch for either kit and you will also need bulbs. Good Luck!
