Correct brake pedal adjustment?

Post by dcarlson12 »

I adjusted the pedal so that it has the correct position relative to the plunger distance from the master cylinder piston.

Approx how far should the pedal move after the plunger comes into contact with the piston before it feels actual resistance?
From what I understand, the piston is supposed to travel a certain distance before there is resistance. When the pedal is released, the piston then travels backward(away from the master cylinder) a certain distance to allow the brake fluid to 'equalize' or ???

i.e. should the pedal travel maybe half of it's potential full stroke before meeting resistance and causing actual braking?

Thks,

I assume you adjusted all four brakes at the wheels before messing with the pushrod or e-brake adjustments.

Once the plunger starts actuating the master cylinder, the play should be very little, like maybe a half inch at the pedal.
