I don't know much about this model. I do know it's a '66 though. Here are some pics.

whoever restored it over 10 years ago didn't do a great job. after i took these pics, i was able to find and punch out the 3 bondo'ed holes in the decklid.

Has the dash been modified in a previous restoration? ...don't think I've ever seen a 66 bug without a a place in the dash to mount a radio??? Does it have a full headliner or just the overhead part ....ie: does it show metal on the inside on the sides and below the back window?

one problem about the previous owner is that he doesn't sound like he knows much about vw's. he just likes them and wanted it shiny. about the dash, i have no idea. I will poke around more to see what has been done to it. I know the original color is sea blue. I wish it was still sea blue. it's been converted to 12V. the rear wheels have a deeper dish than the fronts. I also punched out the bondo covering the holes on the decklid where the 1300 badge should've been.
about the headliner. it only covers the very top. nothing around the rear window or the back section of the car. does that mean that he just didn't buy the entire headliner kit or is it something else?

VW made a stripped-down, or economy version of the 66 beetle ...with a 1200 cc engine, a partial headliner, and (I think) no radio cut-out in the dash. That my be what you have your hands on. Not sure if the serial number would reveal that or not. A Birth Certificate likely would ...

i'd have to check into that. it does have an f code engine, which i believe is a 1300. don't quote me on that though.

Pretty sweet to me.

One question, though. What's the small circular gauge to the left of the fuel gauge on the dash?
