Tire Pressures

Post by JavaG66 »

I am a bit ashamed to ask this, but what do you recommend for tire pressures on Kumho radial tires? Bentley says something really low and I was wondering if those figures were intended for bias ply tires. I generally put in 24 psi on the rear and 20 on the front, but the tires really look slack. Sidewalls say Max 45 psi, so I was wondering if something like 30 might be better. Thanks!

Radial tires always look slack. I've been driving VWs since I was a teenager and even I'm still fooled.

Your tire pressures are in the right range.

air pressure in VW tires

Post by Roadbug »

I've been told the VW beetle with radial tires should have 17 lbs PSI in the front and 24 PSI in the rear.
Has worked pretty well so far.
Now let's hear from the Experts.
An old car nut who got his driver's license in a new 1961 VW and has owned 10 VW's (1957-1972) since then. Favorite was the 67's (2), but the 66 is the longest owned and current VW.

Thanks for the assurance. I just didn't want to be wearing my tires out on the edges prematurely.

tire pressures

Hi.

As on the tire topic, I've been meaning to ask, can I compromise for a slightly wider tyre than 155/65/15 and say use 175/65/15 and move on with no worries?

Getting 155/65/15 in my region has been a big nightmare with the clossest I'm getting being 165. No guys stock that size around here.

Kindly advice.
Thanks.

17 front 24 rear is not that far off from 20/24. Like I said, he's in the right range.

165-85SR-15 is the universal replacement size.
