Greetings from Berkeley

Post by OakBehringer »

Just picked up a beautiful '66. Have some oil leaks and a lot of corners to un-cut from work done by the PO, but all the important parts are there and she seems to be doing great.

This is my first Beetle, but I'm no stranger to air cooled engines as I own/have owned many vintage Japanese motorcycles.

Yep. Looks like a few bits of hardware are missing, but a great start.

Thanks, me too. It's def my fav Beetle color, I'm so glad I was able to find one.

Engine was leaking like Deepwater Horizon. Had to pull the engine.

As it sits now, going out of town for a week.

No major problems, just needs a lot of seals (oil cooler, pushrod tubes, etc). Engine is a 40hp 1200 with a 69mm crank and 85mm pistons. So... a 1600 in soft alloy for me. Not exactly ideal, but I'll make it last a few years.

Cheers,
Adam
