I'm torn. I like that VDM repop as it's very unique, but I like the banjo too.
How do you like the black braided lines? Are they pretty easy to work with?
If you can find a Porsche 356 "Banjo" wheel at a reasonable price, I say that is the wheel to have. I was fortunate that I have a decent network of friends both into VW & Porsche cars. I got that Banjo wheel for a great price. I've seen asking prices of $1000+ for a complete wheel. The cool thing is that it is multi-control. The horn ring activates the horn function, whereas the center button activates a high beam flash from the headlights for slow traffic/passing situations. That's the reason I used a Porsche column as it facilitates dual horn brush assemblies.
The Black lines on the oiling & breather system is very easy to work with. I'd say easier than the normal S/S braid. The Black hose has a higher pressure rating, but it also costs a bit more.
Had the top installed by a local trimmer (SOS Upholstery in Oceanside, CA) using a Haartz Sonnenland canvas. New seals, Chrome trims, latches etc.....the works!
All done! And I kept my 5 week deadline to complete it.......but is it ever really done? I'll be adding all the fine custom details as time goes on, but for now the wife can enjoy her "new" Kabriolett.
Continued doing more custom fabrication during the holidays. I custom made some taillight wire tubes using some Steel I had laying around. I designed them to mount using the factory locations so no extra holes needed to be drilled
