New 66 sunroof project owner

Post by Brian Watts »

Hello everyone

I a long time VW fan going back to roughly 1980 where my first bug was a 1958 bug that went though many rebuilds and paint schemes with hi performance engines running as fast as 12.99 ET.

I have had over 30 VWs in all this time from ghias to a barndoor bus

Fast forward to my new project 1966 Jade Green sunroof bug pulled out of a California field after 22 yrs in the sun.

The car is solid mostly straight with original paint and zero rust, EVEN UNDER THE BATTERY!

The car has everything original from the carpet and door panels to the 1300 engine.

New fuel line, fuel pump, and a coil and fired right up. You have to love these cars don't you! :)

Plans are for the original paint to be professionally detailed and buffed out.

Have a 4" narrowed beam for it from Punch Drunk Customs and disc brakes in porsche pattern for the freshly detailed Fuchs alloys I have for it.

And to redo all brakes etc, and change oil in trans and engine and drive it

Next winter will be a new BIG engine and trans but car will not be cut or modified at all

Have lots of toys for it like Berg locking shifter etc that will be added as well

This is my first 66 so might have questions and hope everyone here might help

Please feel free to message me and glad to be here

Brian
