1966 Las Vegas Bug - 2 month goal

Post by xana43 »

Hi there everyone. My name's Noah and I'm restoring my bug for my first car when I turn 16 in October. I'll have pictures up soon, but one question I would like to ask. The paint job on it was actually done pretty well. There's minimal to no rust on it (which is surprising, because our friend who we bought it from lived everywhere from Oregon, to Hawaii, to New York and brought it with him each move). My question is, if I want to do a new paint job, do I bring it down to metal or the primer? Wish me luck, and good luck to everyone else doing other restoration projects!

Depends on how many previous paint layers are hiding under the top coat. Too many coats & you'll lose the crisp body lines and the paint may eventually crack.

If it's still wearing it's original paint, I say scuff it & use it as a base.
