Amateur "rustoration"

Post by agramer1966 »

In the next couple of weeks i will try to "rustore" my '66, to beige color/red leatherette interior, combination. From what I have seen so far I will need to change both floorpans, lower portions of heater channels, both back bumper holders and some small sections as I go along.
Idea is not to have show vehicle, but to make nice classic daily driver. All but upholstering and spraying I'll attempt to do myself. I did couple of things before so ... we'll see.
Expect lot of pictures in exchange for your comments.

I have started taking it apart. Usual "eastern" style repairs with pieces of this and that, floors rotten etc...

First question: After cleaning sunroof I have noticed that it "touches" something inside leaving marks in paint. Any ideas how to fix or adjust that before i start taking it apart.

The bigest problem were layers (up to 1cm)of rubber-like protection paint done by previous owner. Now the back side has been finished, "only thing" left is front and middle :P

Time for floors. Parts used are brasilian-made and best grade that can be given to them is "acceptable". I will be using Eberspacher heating unit so i have closed front part of heating channel where heater will be connected and all engine heating will be connected to the back ducts. Very cold here at winter and i like to drive my bug year-round.
