Is this the correct wiper motor?

Post by doodoodleylou »

Hello! My name is Lou, just registered. On Friday I am getting my first car ever and would you imagine, its a 1966 beetle. So. Stoked.

The windshield wiper motor needs replacing and since it rains like you wouldnt imagine here, I need to get on that. I found this:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0047

I really dont know if any of this matters because I dont really know anything about cars (obviously plan to learn since the car is well over twice my age, and dont worry, I had help when picking it out by someone who does)
but heres the facts:
Rebuilt 1300cc engine
Converted to 12 volt system

Any help please?

And here is my beauty to be. Still need to figure out a name.

Well, it looks right for the '66, but it also looks like a 6volt motor. You said yours is converted to 12 volt, so when searching for parts, you're probably gonna need to go one year up or more. Here's a link to wiper motors. You probably need one because they kept running the 6v motor on the new 12v system.

First one is for newer bugs, second one is the one you listed (6v), after that there is one that might work for you. It's for '68 and up, but it's 12v.

You can run the 6v, you just need to drop in a resistor also to run it on 12v systems.

So something like this in addition to that would work?

Does the year not necessarily matter? (being a classic, not a new beetle that is)

I'm just saying that the '66 was a 6 volt. Since it's been converted to 12 volt, you'll need a 12 volt wiper motor. You may be able to find a 12 volt motor that is otherwise similar to the 6 volt, and that may be best, but usually any 12 volt motor that connects to the mechanism the same way would work.

Something exactly like that. :) I've got one on my '66 and it's been peachy for the 5 years I've owned it.

Do you have any pics of the installation process? I just bought one but I really have no idea how to mount it.
