Running issue

Post by ljmlaw »

I have recently bought and rebuilt a 66 and am having trouble getting the engine to run right. I have adjusted the valves and point but the engine still misses when it warms up. What do I need to check next.

Can you give us some more details about the miss? Is the miss consistent? Is it random? Is it all through the powerband? Does it only do it at certain spots?

Some quick things to look at

plugs
plug wires
timing
check for vaccum leaks and exhaust leaks
Check your cap damage
Check your rotor

See if that gets you anywhere. Also, let us know some more about your setup
stock?
what carb?
What distrib? I see you're using points so I don't have to ask about ignition
What are your points gapped to? Do you have the dwell set?
What did you set your valves to?

Miss in engine

Post by ljmlaw »

It was a miss once the engine warmed up. It turns out it was the after market distributor cap I put on. It was taller then the original and was not making proper contact. He's running good now. Yes my wife and daudhter named it Theador.

Theadore, great name. For us senior members reminds us of the old sitcom Leave it to Beaver. Wally and Beaver were brothers, often having Theadore show up at the front door with the refrain "Hello Mrs. Cleaver" with a insincere/sincere tone.
