New 66 owner (i think)

Post by Cherokee »

Hi everybody
Great site you have, i found it by accident while searching Google for info on oil bath air filters!

I am now the proud owner of a 1300 Beetle, regd in December 1965, but its seems by the spec it may be a 1966 MY

The chassis number is 116240632.

Can anyone tell me what i have?!

Cheers
Cherokee :D

You have a 1966 VW. The third number designates the model year, and your car was the 240,632 car built for that production year.

Thanks Blue Baron!

Wonder if you could tell me how i find out what colour i have also?

As you may see on the pic its a sort of beige colour, i quite like it.

Took the bug out in the snow today, drove brilliantly...

Thanks for your help.

It's a little hard to tell from the picture but I believe you have the sea sand color. Welcome to the Forum!

I'm glad you found it too! Here's a picture of my old Sea Sand Beetle so you can compare the color:

Mine seems slightly darker?

Could do with some of that sunny weather on the pic!

It could just be the lighting too - it was a pretty bright day when I took that picture. I'm pretty sure you have the sea sand paint - that's an awesome color. I wish VW had some of those colors today!

Hi there!

Actually Volkswagen used to change model years every August (i'm not sure that is still the case though). This means that cars first registered between August 1965 and August 1966 should be '66 models (unless of course it's a car that has been standing on a lot somewhere for some time - unlikely though, since at that time Beetles sold like crazy).

Rgds
