Is the muffler a DIY project?

Post by Cheryl G »

I need to order the muffler, installation kit, tail pipes and installation kit for the Beetle.

The muffler shop said they would install it if I got the parts.

Hubby asked me at lunch today if I knew whether he could do it himself or did it have to be at the muffler shop.

Looking at all the parts it seems everything is bolted together... not welded.

Thoughts please...got to get those glass packs off ....

Cheryl:
you can do the project. You will need to really soak all the studs with
a good blaster lube type product...not wd 40.just take your time when
you loosen all the nuts..when re installing make sure to replace all gaskets.

I use PBblaster, about 15 min or so espescially on exhaust port bolts,if you break them off you'll have to drill them out and retap them ,If they turn out of the case replace them with newstud bolts and brass nuts, other then that pretty straight forward install.good luck
