Flywheel (type 4 engine)

Hi.
What material is the vw (& more specifically the type 4) flywheel?
I have one that was messed by a previous owner (it came messed with the engine). Seems they'd used it for an engine conversion and then went back to the original- problem is, they welded it back.
I'd wanted to get it well-done (getting replacements here especially for the type 4 is something else).
Kindly advice- if I know what material for sure, I'd best go straight to the engineers who deal with such and hopefully get the best assistance.
