1.7-2.0 ltr engines

Post by KKV270 »

Hi.
Curious- having stumbled upon a block and cylinder heads to the 1.7-2.0ltr engine version (air cooled), I wonder;

-What are the internal differences if any?
-is the crankshaft used on this the same?
-are there any cylinder heads to other engines e.g. Subaru that may fit this block?
-how dependable were this engines?
-comparison of this engine to the earlier versions?
- Any online resources on this engine (before I go too far with the idea of rebuilding and investing in the manuals?)

Thank you

A 1.7 - 2.0 is different than a regular bug motor in all respects internal and external. I do not know is Subaru heads will fit that case. If you plan on using in a 1966 bug, modifications may be required from the transaxle to the body surrounding the engine. This is not a drop in engine for a bug with a stock body.

Thanks darzoom.
My primary goal was to just weigh the options of getting the engine to use but more specifically as a replacement to the 1.6ltr air cooled that's not n my transporter.
Thanks
