Hello from NC

Post by NCdad »

Been in and out here knowing one day I would own a '66.

Picked this one up a few weeks ago.

Has some work to do.... It's not road ready yet, but I did get the motor to start after its been sitting awhile!
Engine is NOT original as its a 1200 40 hp #727xxxx from Oct/62

The day I towed it home.

Got Wheels back from Bead Blasting.

Wanting to go stock with L41 black and L289 Pale Blue Colors but Do I want to paint or Powder coat them.... hmmmmm.

Blasting was $20 per wheel.

Where do you get L269 paint from?

I found that Wesco carries just about all of the original VW paint colors. Not sure if there is a Wesco in your area... Worth checking though.
The best success I have had with painting wheels is using metal etching primer as a base before paint. Then paint and then clear coat. Makes them easy to keep clean and they always shine. I have stainless beauty rings and white walls on my daily driver 66'...

Just wanted to update this post and close it out.

Been through some rough times starting 2 days after my last post...
my spouse having an affair, separation, child custody, and divorce.
VW people are some of the most genuine and caring people around, from helping you to get rolling down the road when your broke down, sharing some good food and good stories at a show or cruise-in, or helping you get through some of the darkest days of your life.
I just wanted to say "Thank You" to all my VW people.

Anyway, this '66 made it, back on the road the summer of 2015,
but has gone to a new owner in South Carolina in Oct 2015.
I'm sure I will pick up another 1966 in the future but just wanted share a few pics of the final look when I had it.
