6 or 12 volt??

What is the way to tell if my bug is 6 volt or been converted to12 volt? any help would be great. im getting ready to rewire the whole bug, with all neww switches and relays.

Hi Justbuggin91! The easiest way is to look at your battery - if will say right on it if it is a 12 or 6 volt. ALso if anyone has converted it, they would need to install 12 volt headlamps (and a lot of other bulbs) as well - which is pretty easy to check. If you were converted. Also I believe the generator will be stamped with what voltage it is as well. Good Luck!

Your coil should say 6V or 12V. 6V generators have the regulator mounted on top of the gen. 12V does not. what ever you do do not put a 12V battery in your 6V bug. Also a 6 volt bug's lights will get brighter when the engine is reved up.
