Power Inverter - 6 Volt to 12 Volt

Post by D2 »

I have a beautiful and all original '66 Sunroof Beetle and I would like to be able to use a Garmin GPS and to sometimes recharge my cellphone while on the road. I'm considering installing an inverter to go from 6 to 12 volts and a 12 volt power receptacle in the car. This is a link to an inverter I've seen on Amazon.

Has anyone had experience doing this sort of thing - good or bad
experience -
I'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you. D2

Seems like a reasonable way to go, as opposed to installing a 2nd 6v battery, and a battery isolator, and then running the 12v accessories off both batteries, and the 6v system off one (I did this back in the day with a 6 volt gas heater in a 12v car). For $30 it certainly worth a shot ....
