Hello Matt and welcome to the forum! I've never run accross information on the paint for the pans or chassis before. Most of the pictures I have seen are a gloss black, but perhaps someone else will jump in with their opinion on this one! I know a lot of restorers use POR-15 on their pans and that is a semi to high gloss finish. There are a few good books on VW restoration that may be able to help too that I have stumbled across on Amazon - so you may want to get one of those anyway since it sounds like you are giving it a pretty good once over.

Once again Welcome to the Forum Matt!

Should be 70% gloss. So semi gloss it is.Will use Rustoleum, thinned, and will use a hvlp gun to spray.
