Hello from Ireland!

Post by vdubber9411 »

Just been given (yes given) this 66 bug! I've owned various air cooled Vdubs over the years! But the 66 is a great year. I've known this beetle since 97 as it was my best pals bug. I've made every effort over the years to buy it off him and he's now said I can have it. It's been locked in the garage for 10 years and not seen light of day as the key to the garage was lost. So out she comes for a spruce up.

It went in the garage 10 years ago with a minor engine fault, no biggy! The main problem area I can see are the rain gutters. They're pretty rotten (UK weather has taken its toll). What are your views? Do I rip them off and go for the Cal look or do I stay stock? I prefer stock but is it going to be costly getting the gutters replace? The work will be carried out by a VW restorer not by me! What the general view? The bug is currently stock, 1300 6v, no mods!
More pics to follow.
Cheers. Keep dubbin.

Looks like it spent lots of time near the ocean.

Hi vdubber9411! I can only speak for myself when I say "keep it stock". I think it may cost you more to get it fixed but it will be worth more in the long run. Best of luck with your new 66! John

Stock or Cal

Yeah I agree John! Much prefer stock. No it's not lived near the ocean! Just had good old British weather to deal with... Pics soon when she's back in fine form. Keep Dubbin.
