Down south buggin

Post by Stickman »

Hello from north GA. Well they say timing is everything and today is a a big day. I took the plunge and bought a 66 to add to my collection. What sold me on it was reading your website and gaining great knowledge which was just yesterday. I picked up a multicolored bug that surprisingly enough is in pretty dang good shape. In fact I may have stumbled on a diamond in the rough. Look forward to gaining great knowledge from all you 66'ers. Do you think I got ripped off at a thousand if everything is there with minimal rust but it does obviously need to be gone thru and the motor was apart in a box?

A thousand for a running car? That's collectable? It's hard to find any car that runs for a thousand.

I think you got a great deal. The VW hobby is still relatively affordable compared to other collectable cars. Welcome to the gang.

Let's see some pictures.

Sounds like you've got some work ahead of you. If you're totally new to the air-cooled world, there's no time like the present to learn. You are the best mechanic for your car.

I'd suggest cleaning and inspecting your engine while it's out. (you'll want to find out why it was pulled).

To help that process, you'll need......

The Bible

Nice to have

If you need to rebuild your engine

Great technical advice

Great general info

Parts

Not sure where you are in North Georgia. If you need parts Herrell in Carrolton Ga has most of what you might need.

Thanks folks. Not new to the vw world but new to 66's. Yeah the motor was out because he said that he heard a "ticking". In fact it's been out and the car has been untouched since 99. But I'm really jazzed about the minimal amount of rust on the car. Got a little in the battery box area and a minimal amount in the package tray area behind the rear seat. The car is tight!!! I see why ya'll like this year so much. Thanks for the help and encouragement. I will keep posted for words of wisdom and will also post pics as soon as I can figure out how. Lol
