Antenna Question Please

Post by BlueOne »

Can anybody show me a picture of there SIDE based antenna on there
Beetle please. Mine never has had a radio and I have tried all the diff types of hidden ants. but none of them work very well. was trying to make it so you can not see anything. the radio is in the glove box nice and small and the RetroSound Speaker is install . I have had the side mount for this car for a while and I did not want to drill a hole for it.
looks like its now time to do that. I just wanted some measurements
on about where it might be drilled on the side.
Thanks for any input.

I can

Post either a picture or get the measurements from my 66, however; it has the holes for the side mount antenna, but it is missing the antenna. It also has an 80's cassette am fm that fit in the original hole that I am thinking about replacing with the retrosound.

Let me know if that is good enough for you, and I'll get that picture and those measurements at lunch.

Will do. I know a picture won't be too hard to get. I will also get measurements, too. They may be off by a mm or two, for the car had been in a front-end fender bender before I picked it up.

But, it should be close enough to get an idea, and the diameters are what you are probably really needing.

If you didn't want to go stock :) you could try and install it at an angle.

Stay tuned...

Sorry about that...

Yesterday was way busier than I could imagine.

I got to tinkering with mine last night shortly after midnight.

I got my door to open from the inside (yay!) and my window to move not only down smoother, but up easier a bit, too.

All thanks to me finding a missing machine screw and also having plenty of left over wheel bearing grease.

Anyhow, here's the external picture. The bigger hole is 1/4" in diameter, the smaller one, is 1/16" in diameter. Distance from door seam to antenna hole appears to be about 2" on the nose.

Distance between center of big hole and center of little hole is about 1/2", if I remember correctly. I will be able to get more accurate measurements today during lunch, after all, it is Friday!

Didn't take any shots from the inside (kind of embarassing to do so, my trunk area is NOT clean) but I will attempt to do that during lunch.

Once you get rocking with the retrosound, let me know what you think of it, I am seriously considering getting one of those...

There is no right or wrong position for the antenna! These were installed by the dealer, and the holes were wherever the mechanic decided to put them.

I normally mount my antennas on the drivers side, at the same angle as the windshield post so I can reach out and adjust the length while driving.

Let me (or let us) know what you think of the retrosound.

I've been thinking of picking up one of those units, but I have to pick up an antenna first.

We have a 67 that we use the Radio in for the past 4 years
it has been great... this dual left/right single speaker I have
in the 66 is fair. I picked up a small radio to fit in the glove box
it also has a plug in aux for the iPod and a SD card reader for music
it was like $26 on amazon. I did not want to remove the original plate
that was in the dash. I have tried TWO HIDDEN Ants. with NO luck
So I still am pondering drilling holes into the side of my 66.

Instead of drilling holes in the exterior, how would you feel about drilling them in the interior? Is it possible to retro fit an old 80s style car cell phone antenna to do the job? Or, is my sleep deprivation getting to me?
