You would have to compare the two cars, feature for feature, because in some countries even though a car was marketed as a 1966 model, it was so in name only. In a lot of places (not sure if Brazil was one of them) VW never did the upgrades ("progressive refinements") that they did for the...

Not sure if this is helpful to USA folks, but I recently purchased a 6-Volt "Sonic 36" battery, its a brand that is sold by Federated Cooperatives Ltd. stores in Canada. It has the following info on it: #701MF Series 4000 610 CCA 750 CA D1 Not sure of the manufacturer, but it says 'Made fo...

Good find!! And, in great shape, too. It's amazing how many times you'll find an 'almost' decent bumper, where only some part of it is damaged making it 'not good' as a whole bumper, but maybe good enough to use for parts to try to put a decent whole bumper together. AND ...its amazing how stupid so...

Re: Hello from Ohio

I'm new here . I have a lot of questions and will try to post in the proper sections . Bought a 66 model 113 I think, it's a really nice car that was originally purchased in California and was then bought by a private collector in my area . It has been stored indoors since 1980 . I'm an old retired...

VERY nice!!! Sure brings back the memories of what mine looked like back in the summer of 1969 ....right down to the thin-line whitewall tires!!! Curious: do you have coloured running board mats ...or are they black. The experts say the mats should be 'Alpine Blue' ...frankly, I don't remember from ...

Thank you very much for the reply! As you can see from my signature photo, I was the proud owner of a 1966 Bahama Blue back in the day. I bought it used (had about 40,000 miles on it) during the summer of 1968 ...I think I paid about $1200 CDN for it. Unfortunately, I don't have very many photos of ...

Behind rear seat carpet colour?

Working on my 66 originally Bahama Blue beetle, which had black vinyl basket weave upholstery and black carpet sections in the front area. I plan on staying with the original colours when I finally get it completed, but I'm confused about what carpet colour was originally used in the back area: on t...

I've been collecting 'reference photos' of 66 bugs for several years now, trying mostly to get pics of 'unmolested' original cars. And almost all of the ones that appear to be original show a black distributor cap ....even on my project car that I bought back on 2013 (it had been driven daily up til...

I find this to be a bit of an odd question. It is not inconceivable that at some point in the past 52 years the original rear deck lid got changed out ..perhaps due to a minor accident, etc. The fact that your current deck lid does not have the original 1300 emblem might not be much of a mystery at ...

If you still have your old trunk liner, it can be 'rehabilitated' with a bit of work. I used a paste made of Elmer's glue and ground up bits of cardboard (used an electric coffee bean grinder) to repair the cracks and tears, and black liquid shoe polish to recolour the material. Works great, if you'...

If you 'pre-form' the rear panels to the shape of the body, you'll find it easier to install the panel with all the clips. Before putting the upholstery on the panel, dampen it slightly and install it on the car. Use a heat-gun to dry the panel in place and will take on the curves of the body. You m...

Repro bumpers, and uprights, will always be of lighter guage metal, and will usually have plastic spacers where the towel bars meet the bumper blades. They do this to mask the poor fit. They are more prone to rust, as well. Somehow, VW wasn't really carefully about stamping the dates on the bumpers ...
