I checked the timing as part of the tuneup. Do you think I should check it again?

Remove the distributor.

Rotate the engine by hand clockwise until the #1 cylinder top dead center mark is even with the seam in the engine case.

Reinstall the distributor and check your timing.

I did the tune up, but...

The tune up went well, but a problem has surfaced. As a last step, I adjusted the carburetor and set the idle at 900RPM. Now when the engine is warm, the idle drops off to about 700RPM, and the engine occasionally dies. Any advice or suggestions will be gratefully received.

tach/dwell meter

I've always had my tune-ups done by my mechanic, but I want to try one on my own.

Can I use a 12volt tach/dwell meter on a 6volt electrical system? If so, how do I go about it? If not, where can I get a 6volt meter?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

My bad, Fatalifeaten...

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I won't die from it. The important thing is to get the correct information out there.

My suggestion: First, take off your distributor cap. Look at the rim of the distributor body. There should be a mark somewhere in the lower right-hand quadrant of the distributor rim. Put your car into neutral (block the wheels!), and turn the engine manually counter-clockwise until the tip of the d...

Ex Prof, Have you traded your bug for a boat yet? hope your high and dry down there! But bugs float don"t they! I'm o.k.; our house is on high ground. The only real trouble I'm having so far is figuring out which route to take to work because of the road closings. Thanks for asking... :)

My suggestion: First, check the horn fuse. The horn fuse is the first fuse on the left as you look at the fuse box from the driver's seat. This fuse also governs the lights and wipers. If they're working, that's probably not the problem, but you want to eliminate all the possibilities. The horn has ...

Brian, I rewired my switch this morning using your instructions. It works like a charm. I found, though, that the guy that I had install the switch apparently removed the brown wire from the motor terminal 31b, so it was necessary to fabricate two wires: that one and the one from terminal 31 to grou...

Thanks, Brian!

I'll give this a try.

I have one question, though:

Where did you ground the wire going from terminal 31 to ground?
