Re: glove box latch

didn't work. still need to "coax" it open with a small screwdriver. should just fall open, shouldn't it?? Yes, it should. Sounds as if the tab is a bit too far back. You may have to "finagle" a bit to get the right adjustment. Bend it a bit more toward you if you are sitting in ...

wiper switch

I had to replace my wiper switch, but the only one that I could get was a for a '67. Unlike the '66, the '67 has two speed wipers. The switch didn't come with a wiring diagram. After trying to wire the switch myself, I took the car to my mechanic. He got the switch to work, but it activates the wipe...

Check that the latch itself is not damaged in any way. If it's functioning properly, you'll have to bend the metal tab slightly to get the hook on the latch to engage the tab.

I'm not quite sure of what you mean by "totally off." Shoot me an email with your chassis number, and I'll try to decipher it.

This should give you a range to work with in case your car turns out not to be a '66 after all.

I was watching this waiting for a solution, because I'm about to replace my mirror as well. I figured to replace all components. My question to your solution is if the parts you are using were designed for your car? Are you trying to put a mirror from a much different model on? Reason I ask is why ...

In case anyone out there is at all curious, the solution to this problem is a bench grinder. I don't have one, and I didn't have access to one this weekend. What you have to do to get the brass insert to fit is to grind off about 1/8 inch from the non-threaded end, and bevel the end around its entir...

I tried that initially, and got a split mirror base for my troubles. Fortunately, I had a spare. I also tried tapping it in with a hammer; that didn't work, either. Since brass is soft, I didn't hit it too hard for fear of messing up the threads.

side view mirror question

I replaced the hinge pins in my driver's side door today. I've not done this job before, and I ran into a problem. What do I have to do to make the threaded brass insert fit flush with the top of the hinge pin? Can I bore out the top of the hinge pin with a drill bit, or is there some other method?
