I use the Meguiers range of paint care products, if the cars new to you and you don't know the paint care history of recent years, then I would recommend you start from tge beginning and take things back to the start. You start with washing the car down with a good quality wash solution like Meguier...

Do you have the engine number? With the engine number you can check the year that it was produced, there are a few internet resources with the information you need. The only sure fire way to see if the engine was original to the car is to order a 'Birth Certificate' direct from the Volkswagen factor...
