Thanks I'll check it out. Found this tech note on Mid America Motorworks site, "Tech note: To check if your Shift Rod Coupler is bad, with 2 pair of pliers and grab the shift rod and the hockey stick. Twist the rods a little to see if you have any play. If there is play, you can experience shif...

When I look at the coupler how do I know if it is bad or still good? I've had the car for a year, checked it out the other day and it seemed in tact.

Diagnosing Shifting Issue

I'm trying to diagnose a shifting issue. When the car is running it'll occasionally have trouble getting into 1st, almost like the shifter just won't go forward when you push it into that gear. The rest of the time, getting into 1st feels like you are pushing against something and then it moves into...

Heat Riser tins

So I bought aftermarket rear engine tin and just now noticed that they are missing part of the heat riser tin, the part attached to the breast plate is not there. Other than buying an older one (which I know now I should have) any way to get the heat riser area covered?

Question on engine hardware kit

First, I'm brand new to rebuilding engines - so forgive me for any silly things I ask. I was given an old engine case that was in good shape but missing nuts and bolts and stuff. I ordered an EMPI engine hardware kit. Starting sorting the nuts and bolts and notice how they seem color coded. Is there...

Distributor and correct timing

Looking for the correct timing setting. I have a 1600 AE Dual port engine, the distributor # is VW 113 905 205 K. I have attached a picture. I'm assuming that it is 7.5 BTDC static. Any help would be great.

I think the PO installed the blower to make the defroster more effective. When you flip it on that's where it blows 90% of the air. I'm having trouble finding parts to restore it. Everything I can find is 68 and up. Any idea where or what kind of insulation goes around the duct work?

Heating ducts under the rear seat

Does anyone have a good pic of what the heating ducts under the rear seat should look like. Trying to confirm I have everything and it's all hooked up right. It would be great to see it done right. I added pics of what is in mine right now. Thanks!

Old cam with new lifters on rebuild

Any thoughts on using new lifters with old cam? The cam checks out to specs but I thought maybe getting new lifters. Any dangers or things I need to be worried about? Everything is stock.
