Does the exterior door handle on the passenger side of your car have a key slot so that your car can be locked/unlocked from the outside? `66 Beetles for the European market did not have a key slot on the passenger side. The cars were locked by pushing the interior door handle to the forward position.

Looks to be built early June, maybe late May of 1966. Is there an 'F' in front of the engine number?

Would yours be a late 1965 model? I think you might have misread his date. It is July of 1966 which would make it a late `66. I thought August 1 was when the new model year started. The short answer is yes. Actually, August 2nd 1965 (Monday) is the date that Progressive Refinements gives for the st...

Is the flasher switch located somewhere else on the dash or is there not a flasher switch? `66 Beetles for the European market did not come with flashers.

As mentioned a phillips socket drive or vise grip works great.
A good trick to break loose a screw is to first try to turn it in the direction that tightens it.

WD-40 is not that good as a penetrating fluid. Most any other brand should work better. Not sure which screws you are working on but you might want to try a vise grip on the screwdriver for better leverage. The crank on mine is 113 837 583A.
I used a mirror to catch the part number since the handle is on the car.
I don't know if I would describe the color of mine as silver grey though.

So the driver side should look just like the passenger side right?
Yes, pretty much a mirror image of the right side. Although it looks like you are missing some insulation that goes around the duct.

Heating ducts did not come with a blower motor. Must have been added by a previous owner. The engine cooling fan should be all you need to get heat to the interior.

I thought that the plug connector had a threaded shaft that screws into the end of the plug wire and that you remove it by pinching the wire while you unscrew the connector.

I believe that Type 2's had the H0 motors starting with the `66 model year. Maybe that's what you got in your Beetle.
