Optima

The big deal with the Optima is the high "cold cranking Amps" (900) and it should last 6 years. The 5019L has 575. Fully charged it's just like the original. They last about 4 years. Problem is I have 3 different 6 Volt cars (a VW and two Early Ford Flathead V8's) and have never had an Opt...

6 or 12 Volt?

I vote for 6 Volt. You will have to clean your connections for the best flow of current, but it works fine.
For those who've switched, I'd like to buy your original 6 volt headlight switch.

Optima Batteries

The red top 6 Volt Optima is a great battery, but expensive. A NAPA 6 volt 19L battery is the right size and shape foe the 6 volt VW, availabe under part #5019L at about 1/3 the cost of the Optima. It fits on the original VW battery tray and the metal top/cover fits. If you use the Optima you have t...

Mutilated Dash

I wouldn't do this unless the rest of the car was especially nice and stock. Otherwise goober it up like most of the VW's are done now with customization to you personal choice. Kind of like women with Tattoo's, if your name is "Bubba" and you like tattoo's, then meeting a girl with BUBBA ...

Red floor mats

My 1966 VW came with RED rubber floor mats (Ribbed). After 44 years of use and 44 years of Florida summer heat, they are brittle and ugly. Question: Does anyone make the reproductions in any color other than black? Who?, Where? and are you happy with them? I hate do start customizing it at this stag...

A picture of my 66 VW

I'd love to post a picture of this neat little, all stock car, but I'm so new here, I'm locked out. Any advice on posting pictures?

Old VW veteran new to this site

Call me "Roadbug" which is the name of our 1966 VW Bug. This is our 10th old VW and it got its name from its primary purpose. We bought it in 1990 to tow behind our Motor Home called "The Roadhouse". It's light and requies no additional braking system, just a $50 tow bar and ligh...
