My friend is talking me into the 12 volt but i did want it to be 6 volt for restoration reasons. Why i am prob going to do 12 volt: *I want a car alarm on it as i heard my town is known for parts being pop off (stolen) *If I ever need a jump I can get one and can't w/the 6 volt. *Lights brighter An...

My father in law has been to Kenya, nut I haven't. I did find a high idle speed goes a long way to heating the bug up quicker.

That rheostat is for the speedometer bulbs which draw very little amperage. It's not designed to control the speed of heater blowers. Good to know. I was planning on hooking up the rheostat portion to the seat heaters and the blowers. However, the blowers I am planning on using shouldn't draw much,...

I see

A few parts I could use

Yes, I am that disparate for cheap parts.

Gives me the idea that future alien archaelogists may discover the beetle and wonder.

I guess, with over 20 million models produced, they are bound to find one no matter what happens here on earth.

A somewhat ambitious idea...

I have a rather unsightly metal toggle switch on my dash. It was hooked up to a blower on the drivers side rear seat heat tube. That doesn't work anymore. I've been thinking about replacing that blower with one for each side, and also adding seat warmers. I'd rather not cut up the dash, but replace ...

It looks

Pretty sweet to me.

One question, though. What's the small circular gauge to the left of the fuel gauge on the dash?

Re: Stuff to consider

The 1500 is a 12 bolt motor so the 6 volt starter gear (bendix/solenoid) will not mesh with a 12 volt starter. If you are not changing the car to 12 volt, you would need to address the gear mismatch with a 12 volt solenoid. If you stay with the 12 volt flywheel, you would need to clearance the tran...

From 1300 to 1500

Can't seem to find a decently priced 1300 engine here locally. Do have a line on a 1500. Seems like a lot of the work I've done has been making my 66 more like a 67. Do you guys think anything needs to be changed to swap out the engine? :?:

success!

It took two nights, and one afternoon. This can be done without removing the engine. The trick is to remove the heater hose from the engine after removing the right rear tire. Of course, precautions like jack stands, disconnecting the battery, and a good amount of luck help as well. Kyle Glad to be ...

Re: Starter replacement

I imagine if it is going to a shop you are looking at between 1-3 hours depending if they are pulling the motor to replace the support beating. Though I am sure it can be done, I have never had any luck changing the bearing without pulling the motor. I am sure others have differing experiences. So ...

Re: Charging Problem??

Hi. I have recently been experiencing some charging problems. With full lights on, the car keeps draining faster. I would notice the charging happen on high revs. What could the problem be? The battery I recently fit in was fairly new... one thing I know is my idle is pretty low which doest allow f...

Success? Well, sort of....

A vanagon I had had a bad rear hatch oor panel the hard backing that it was on was cackled or bent all to heck, causing the panel to dangle when opened. Believe it or not, liberal amounts of duct tape to the backside of the hard material of the door panel made it just as durable as new.

FWIW,

Re: My new/old 66'

Hi all. Greetings from Salt Lake City. I just bought a 66' Beetle last week and I am excited about it. I had a 72' as a teen 20 years ago. This 66' I got for $2300 and it included a bunch of extra parts including a set of bumpers and an extra 66' decklid. Apparently a previous owner had this car pa...
