Yes Dave you keep that crap out there I don't want no more. Yes You should show between 13 to 14.5 volts when you rev it up if your gen and reg is working. If you are showing a pos charge on your meter your gen is polarized in the right direction. very possible, gas you'd notice by smell naturally and also you'd have it in your crankcase hence a faulty fuel pump.
