I did it on my '61. It was switched to 12 volt, and the regulator was on the firewall, which I didn't like. It was a simple matter of rewiring. You need to look at the distributor to make sure the rotor is pointing toward No. 1 plug wire or you can be 180 degrees off. However, it sounds like you did it right. So are you saying the engine wouldn't start when it was hot? Did it start okay again when it was cold? When it was hot, did you try s...

All you can really do with the transmission out of the car is turn the axles back and forth against each other to look for excessive wear in the ring and pinion. You can also drain the gear oil to see if it's clear, or if it is a mess of metal shavings. As to whether the tranny is any good, it's bas...

A 34 PICT carb means you must have a dual-port 1600. You need to post some pictures sometime. I would love to see pictures of you and your car. At any rate (and since I ignore other people's directions) you adjust the carburetor by first warming up the engine until the choke is off. (butterfly on lo...

Congratulations for wanting to raise you VW to stock height. The rear end was probably lowered by adjusting the springplate down one or more notches at the outside of the torsion bars. This is not hard to reverse. The front end may take more work, because normally the front ends are heavily modified...
