Other than switching to 12volt, the only way I know of is to get a 6v booster. Not even sure if that's what it's called. I have one, but have yet to install it. Don't know why. I got it with the car a couple years ago and haven't put it in yet. Previous owner told me they were not made anymore or ha...

I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. The guy I bought this from said it was the steering column for the Euro model. I wouldn't have known any better at the time and didn't care either.

I'll get a pic up and post any markings or numbers it has on it.

ignition on steering column

My bug has the standard ignition switch in the dash. But it also has one on the steering column. I know that the steering column was borrowed at some point in it's life. My question is when and where were these columns used? I'll probably replace it with the type it came with originally, but I'm cur...

Only other thing I can think of is some kind of skid plate if this bug had ever been super lowered. To protect against speed bumps kind of thing. That's the only thing my imagination could come up with.

While I have no idea what it is, I found this exploded view of the transaxle. It does not show it at all. http://www.longenterprises.com/diagram_folder/dia4beetlehousings.htm I checked mine and I do not have one, nor do I see how anything similar would attach. Are you sure this is a '66 transaxle? I...

Re: Belt change

without injury to the car or the person? This is what worries me. And it does look easy, but lots of things look easy that turn out really bad. I might keep it in mind if my belt were to come off somehow and I didn't have proper tools to fix it, but that would usually mean something else is wrong. ...

VW belt change

I don't know if I'd ever try this, but I thought it was cool enough to share. Check this out, it's new to me anyway.

Most of the new ones I've seen designed for older bugs use a suction cup. The new beetles actually have a hole for it. The old ones, if I'm not mistaken, used a clip that hung from the top of the dashboard at the bottom of the window. Someone else might have a better or more accurate description. I ...

Welcome! I'm jealous, while my first car was a bug, it was a chopped up Baja and I had to pay for it myself.

Have fun with it. Post some pics when you can.

I LOVE it! Seriously, NC isn't that far from Ca, is it? I could use your skills around my car! Can't wait to see it finished.

The kits I found are very reasonably priced. I am going to get one, just not sure if I want the vinyl one or canvas one. The vinyl one sounds like it would be more original looking, but the canvas one looks great and might last longer. Not sure yet.
