Thanks John. Top speed is a good question. I think it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 mph (maybe 80 if the engine is really fresh). I've owned the Oval since 1992 and just putt-putt around town ... highways are getting too dangerous for it. Klink's color is a VW Transporter color called Sierra...

Here's where it all started. Looks good allright ... but could be better ... much better! And will be soon. What was the rust like? Well let's just say ... ever dipped cotton candy in water? ... well that's how the underbelly looked. Fred Flintstone would've loved it. That's my cat in front of the g...

Here's a pic of my Oval window 1956 Beetle next to my '66 Beetle. The Oval is in fact restored and 100% solid. It still has 36hp engine and split case transaxle, etc. I drive it a lot more than usual while waiting for the '66 to come home. (sniffle, sniffle  ) PS - I realize it's not a '66 ... ...

European '66 Beetle Restoration Log
This thread documents the restoration of my one (now two) owner 1966 Beetle which I bought in the Summer of 2000. See the "My 66 VW" section and the "New Member" section for the background on my Sea Blue baby. I'll catch you up on the history then begin adding new posts documenti...

Thanks John and Scruffy. I was floored when the original owner handed me the documents. You're right about the parts prices but remember a bottled soft drink cost 10 cents back then versus a buck now. So the 13 dollars for a voltage regulator probably felt more expensive back then. John, a question ...

'66 Beetle Original Bill of Sale
This is a continuation post originating in my New Member Greeting. My 1966 Beetle was purchased by a Captain in the USAF in February 1966 from Autohaus Ing. Fritz Schurstein in Walldorf, Germany. The Captain was stationed at Rh, Main-Airbase (Frankfurt). The "Rechnung" (Bill of Sale) state...

I was also schooled in the 'College of Muir'. My Father bought this book back in '73 and I read it as a child. When the wire spiralbound pages finally came apart he glued new edges to them, punched new holes and re-threaded the spiral wire back through them! There are hard spined and spiralbound ver...

Restoring Euro '66 Beetle
Hi Everyone! I'm currently restoring my European (German bought) Sea Blue (seeblau) '66 Beetle "The Blue Meanie". I purchased it from the original owner about 5 years ago. It shares the stable with my restored stock 1956 Oval and my daily driven 2001 New Beetle TDI. The '66 will also be re...
