Hello,
I'm a little lost in the 1966 wiring schematic that I printed out and I can't figure out what the yellow wire near the top corner of the gas tank is for...I'm attaching a picture of it where it is sitting on the gas tank...hope someone can help me figuring it out...thanks

Thanks for the explanation. Since the manual is in black/white I didn't realize that the light-colored knobs were actually grayish and not ivory-white as I thought.
Now it makes sense...

Dash Ivory Knobs

My manual (August 1965) shows ivory knobs on the dash for the early 1966 models. Did the knob color switch to black at some point later that year or it's something that started only with the '67 bug?

Floor rubber mats

The previous owner didn't have much information, so I'm trying to figure out what was the original set up when the car was originally manufactured. I found left overs of the original mats under the current ones. I attached a pic. At first I thought it was a faded teak color but I'm now wondering if ...

Is there a chance that a small number of early 1966 model bugs would have had the old style hubcaps?

Thanks for clarifying that, I have the original manual dated August 1965...so I guess this was one of the early 1966 bugs...

1966 backseat ashtray

Could I get some advise how to properly remove the backseat ashtray without damaging the interior panel on my '66? I would like to polish the chrome and put it back into place but I'm afraid to do some damage and I'm not sure if there's a trick to slide it out...I tried to gently pull in different d...

Howdy!

Glad I was allowed to join this community! Last week I purchased a '66 SeaSand bug in Ocean Beach, California. I'll try to make it as stock as possible. I'll start searching for period correct hubcaps. Does anybody know when the hubcaps changed to the "66 look" ? I would think August 1965,...

Seasand 1966

After almost a 2 year strenuous search, I finally became the owner of a '66 bug...it seems increasingly difficult to find unmolested VWs these days. I'm fortunate and grateful to live in southern California where it's still possible to find a few preserved gems...my quest was to find an accident fre...
